Picture of the Day No. 82 – The Channel Front Property of Commodore James Thompson

No. 82

The bungalow with garage, shown here on the left, was the Channel Front property of Commodore James Thompson who became the “first” Commodore of the originally built 1911 Yacht Club of Stone Harbor.  Mr. Thompson was President of the Philadelphia Iron Works, 18th and Pennsylvania Avenue, Philadelphia.  Mr. James A. McGrath, 17th and Cumberland Street, Philadelphia, owned the property pictured on the right.  Both properties were located on Sunset Drive in the Snug Harbor basin area close to the popular Yacht Club.  Like so many other early investors/home builders, both of these owners acquired the land on which their houses stood, free under the Stone Harbor Bond Plan.
