Picture of the Day No. 67 – The 10-Horsepower Outboard Motor Boat Races 1928

No. 67

Here are a pair of related photos discovered at the Stone Harbor Museum archives.  The subject of these images centers on the very popular 10-horsepower outboard motor boat races.  This particular race day occurred in August 1928 and was conducted on the Great Channel at the southern end of Stone Harbor.  Gathered on this particular occasion we can see  hundreds of spectators enjoying one such race.  I would like to make one final observation and that is, please notice the unfinished bulkhead in the foreground of this first photo.

This second image portrays a close-up of 2 competing motor boats.  Perhaps the man who is standing up in his boat named “Keystone” shown here on the right is attempting to re-start his stalled outboard engine.  There is no doubt these races were exciting attractions for many who ventured to our favorite resort, Stone Harbor.
