Here is a splendid panoramic view of the popular Stone Harbor Yacht Club that was built in 1910 and was located at 89th Street and Sunset Drive. This image was also obtained from the Stone Harbor Museum archives and was issued in a 1917 publication, some 107 years ago.
The Yacht Club, boasting a large membership, became the center of many aquatic activities, regattas and boat races of all sorts over many years.
The caption associated with this particular photo gives us some very interesting information. “The Yacht Club from Cobble Point, showing a portion of the 4-1/2 miles of bulkheading, which gave rise to the expression: ‘In all the world, no water like this.’ On the right lies the beautiful Snug Harbor Yacht Basin, while on the left, as far as the eye can reach, extend miles of State Inland Waterway, affording a straightaway motorboat race course. Out of 800 lots constructed along this water front only ten remain unsold.”
